Came to my rescue (Instrumental)

The instrumental that Pat found for our practice.
It's a challenging song, I really need the Lord's rescue! ;)

Came to my rescue (Original C key)

Singing this song in its original key will bring out the beauty and versatility of Pat's voice. I will have to sing in the lower octave throughout (am not keen to do the octave jump just for the chorus, plus I am not confident of executing high D nicely... haha.. use of my head voice surely needs more work! ;)). Looking at the score, I now understand why I am so much more comfortable singing this song in E key (the Bethel-Leah one). Thank God for the score as it helps me so much in my learning when I get to play the notes on the piano (I'm surely a predominantly kinesthetic learner)! No wonder PE was my favourite subject in school!

The blessing of broken wrists

Taken from Why passion isn't enough

Even as I press on in learning how to sing, I have become increasingly and acutely aware that it's not the singing that matters to the Lord.

1. Internalise Scripture - Know the Bible!

2. Guide Hearts - I’m choosing songs, crafting transitions and planning sets in order to display the glories of God. All my hard work is working to magnify the beauty of Jesus. If the church doesn’t see Jesus clearly, I’ve failed. If the church is mesmerised by our performance as a team, we’ve failed. We are tour guides, labouring to spotlight Jesus.

3. Love People

4. Do Kingdom Work - APP! Invest your life into the Kingdom!

5. Stop Leading Songs - Songs are simply tools. A master craftsman doesn’t just love his tools. He uses tools to build. Worship Leader, don’t just pick songs and call it worship. Use songs to prophesy over people. Use songs to lead the room in declaring truth. Use songs for a purpose. Organise your setlist around what God is doing, not just the popular songs you can execute better than the radio. Don’t just sing. Lead.

Mind-Body Connection

Raymond gave this instruction whilst we were singing 'And I pray that You will use my life' the other day (WD2 Week 9), "Use mind connect". I wrote it down though I didn't quite understand what it meant at that time. I do know that he would like us to make sure the words are sung in a connected manner.

Here's what I found on mind-body connection in singing:
As well, you probably place more importance on communicating to someone while the pitches and colors of your voice spontaneously flow as an extension of your emotions and concepts. Try thinking of pitches as vowel sounds of different colors, rather than different heights to climb. It is beneficial to first speak the words of the song you are learning and to explore what it is like to just say each word. Then add the melody "color" to each word and practice singing like you speak - talking on pitch.  (Taken from http://www.jeanniedeva.com/page/69911)

Recent (just before WD2 Week 11) internalisation on the expression work that we have been learning: it's meant to convey our heartfelt emotions and thus build up the worship atmosphere. It's like when I read stories to Ju and Tara... I would naturally use different tones to create interesting effects so as to bring out the meaning/atmosphere of each story... they would always laugh so hard! =)
