World Cup 2014

Germany, my favourite team!
“The German team embodies many of the qualities that typify Germany today:
commitment, discipline, technical skill and tactical know-how,” he said.

Never Stay Down

The 1981 movie Chariots of Fire portrays the true story of Eric Liddell, a man who competed for Great Britain in the 1924 Olympics before becoming a missionary. One memorable scene that appeared to be Hollywood fiction, actually happened. A year before the Olympic showdown, Liddell ran in a meet between England, Ireland, and Scotland. In the 440-yard event, moments after the gun sounded, Liddell tangled feet with J.J. Gillies of England and tumbled to the track. Dazed, Liddell sat there, not knowing whether he could get up, when the official screamed, "Get up and run!" He jumped to his feet and pursued the pack, now a full twenty yards ahead of him. With forty yards to go, he pulled into third place, then second. Right at the tape he passed Gillies, stuck his chest out, won the race, collapsing in total exhaustion.

The next day The Scotsman newspaper reported, "The circumstances in which Liddell won the race made it a performance bordering on the miraculous." Some described it as "the greatest track performance they had ever seen."

Some of you have been knocked down by foolish decisions, by a person, or even Satan himself. When we're down on the track, we're ashamed and depressed. The only real shame is to stay down. God's word compels you, "Get up and run!" Forget what lies behind and run for the prize God has waiting for you.

Helping your staff succeed as a person

What makes John Maxwell Company staff “want to” double their effectiveness?

I believe it’s because team members receive five things from the leaders:
1. Relationship. My organization has been blessed with some exceptional people. It starts at the top with the CEO of the John Maxwell Company, Mark Cole, who has a real talent for connecting with his team. He truly practices what I preach when I tell people to reach for a person’s heart before asking for their hand.
2. Ownership. John F. Kennedy once said, “Efforts and courage are not enough without purpose and direction.” I believe team ownership depends on a clear vision cast by the leader, which spells out their contribution.
3. Reward for work. Recent generations have gotten used to being rewarded just for showing up. But what really motivates achievers are rewards that are tied to production.
4. Pride. This is a direct result of ownership. When a team member understands how his contribution matters, and makes that contribution, the natural outcome is pride in the work. You can increase that pride by always offering recognition for a job well done.
5. Confidence through equipping. Harvey Firestone said, “It is only as we develop others that we permanently succeed.” Beyond casting vision, a good leader equips his people and helps them to grow. This adds value to their lives and sets them up for success.

No regrets!

Q. If there is one thing you can change about life, what would that be?

A. I have taken what comes my way, made use of it, and I am happy with the way things are today. I would not want to change anything. I was born under very poor circumstances but that in itself has made me who I am. I may never be who I am today if I were born rich. No, there is no time for regrets, only time to move on.

Out of the Harbour by Jiamin Choo

A very timely gift from dearest Ah Bao and Serene
(Thank you, Ah Bao and Serene!)

A ship is safe in harbour,
but that's not what ships are for.
- William Shedd (1820 - 1894)

"When you hear His call, respond in love and absolute surrender.
Yes, you will have to count the cost.
But, after that, may you obey your Heavenly Captain
by taking the step of faith to follow Him... out of the harbour."

The Shack - God as you've never seen Him before!

www.theshackbook.com

"... a revolution (of love and kindness) that revolves around Jesus and what He did for us all and
what He continues to do in anyone who has a hunger for reconciliation and a place to call home.

This is not a revolution that will overthrow anything,
or if it does, it will do so in ways we could never contrive in advance.

Instead, it will be the quiet daily powers of dying and serving and loving and laughing,
of simple tenderness and unseen kindness, because
if anything matters, then everything matters.

And one day, when all is revealed, every one of us will bow our knees and
confess in the power of the Holy Spirit that
Jesus is the Lord of all creation,
to the glory of Papa God."

Precious Words of Love (from Steven Loh)

It was a great void deck conversation we had.... I came upstairs to tell Lils what a very unique couple you are.... each one so very intelligent.... each one so in love with God.... each one with such high, high integrity....

definition of integrity: I do not use Webster, Oxford, nor other dictionaries.... I  use only the Dictionary according to Jehovah.... "integrity" to me, as I understand Jehovah, means to be integral / one / integrated, with truth. And, since all truth comes from Jehovah, integrity therefore means to be one with God's truths....

And my, oh my, how your journey over the last years is so different from the average youthful middle class Singaporean couple.... you are beginning to see more and more manifestations of the world's systems of control, even control of the minds of the citizens.... when you test everything against Jehovah's Mind, you will see that your difference is GOOD....

I did not know why I had to meet you on the eve of a new year, but I knew it is about your future walk on Earth. In the days following our conversation, the phrase cycling in my mind has been that you two are not to lose your God-given bright colours. That phrase has to do with the vision I shared the first time I met you as a couple: that you will be moved over the face of His tapestry (His church), and that wherever you pass over, the tapestry's colours will be shine out again. The colours were there before, but they are now faded. But, as for you two, you shall not lose your colours, and that word "shall" invokes a pro-active, deliberate choice of not allowing your love of God to fade. That word "shall" is used in the same way as in "You shall love the Lord your God....".

A word to the wise is enough, and here, I've laid out many words
....

... which is a long-winded way to say, since my love-language is words, that I love you two....

May this new year be the best year ever
in your individual and corporate lives....
may this be the very best ever.... and
may all succeeding years be even better....
all things are possible, for in Christ,
we are
never deprived of anything good for us....
